Sunday School matters. Be revolutionary!

Will You Express Your Appreciation for Teachers?

November 2, 2020 by Darryl Wilson Leave a Comment

In a normal year, a teacher would invest more than a hundred hours in preparation, teaching, leadership, and ministry. This year has been an unusual one. And that is another reason to express appreciation for teachers and workers for the hard work and discipleship and ministry investment in members and prospects through the Sunday School.

November and May are chosen by many churches to express appreciation for Sunday School teachers and workers. Keep in mind that appreciation is more about recognition and expressing thanks than it is about a gift. Consider these ideas for doing so:

Ideas to Express Your Appreciation

  • pray with your teacher or worker (in person or by phone) expressing your appreciation to God for how God has blessed him/her
  • send a thank you card, text, and/or email
  • call your teacher (or worker) to tell him/her what you appreciate about him/her or how you have grown because of him/her
  • make a social media post on the teacher or worker’s social media page telling everyone what you appreciate about him/her (this is not a time to be a kidder)
  • express appreciation each week during worship for one or more teacher/worker or for an age group (preschool, children, students, and adults)
  • if your group is meeting in person, write “Thanks to…” on the markerboard and write the names of those who serve the class well
  • if your group is meeting online, ask participants to share 1-2 words describing what you appreciate about the teacher or worker
  • don’t forget to say thanks to your Sunday School director and any other general leaders.

Do You Have More Ideas?

What would you add to this list? Of course you can always give a gift or gift card. But don’t forget to tell and show your teachers and workers that you care and how much you appreciate them. Make plans now. Affirm. Make disciples. Be revolutionary!

Disciple-Making Encounters

Two encounters are critical. First, the leader encounters God in His Word and is changed. Second, the leader guides the group to have a life-changing encounter.
