Connecting More People This Year in Small Groups

May 10, 2010 by Darryl Wilson Leave a Comment

There are hundreds of things you can do to connect more people (worship attenders and others) in small groups and Sunday School classes. One of the most effective is simply to invite them. I want to encourage you to read Mark Howell’s blog post from today, 5 Things You Can Do Now to Connect More People This Year. In his post, he mentions special days, a bulletin blurb, a pilot group, video testimony, and a fall church-wide campaign. Each of these can easily be adapted to your setting.

People who are not connected into groups are more likely to drop out of your church, according to research by Thom Rainer of LifeWay. According to research from several years back by Andy Anderson of LifeWay (then Baptist Sunday School Board), people unconnected to Jesus who are in Sunday School are more than 100 times more likely to profess Christ after twelve month than those who are in worship only.

Set a goal this year to connect more people in your groups.

Two encounters are critical. First, the leader encounters God in His Word and is changed. Second, the leader guides the group to have a life-changing encounter.

In John 13:34-35, three times Jesus said, “Love one another.” Your group is the ideal place to practice and launch the kind of love for one another that shows the world that we are His disciples.
